JANESVILLE, Wis. - Playing their second day of games in the 2015 Midwest Conference Classic, the Ripon softball team lost to both Lake Forest and Grinnell. The Red Hawks lost to the Foresters 8-0, while losing to Grinnell by a score of 10-0, with both games ending in five innings.
In the first game of the day, Lake Forest (20-4, 6-0 MWC) jumped on the board early with a three-run first inning on a trio of RBI singles. They scored on another RBI single in the third, before plating two more in the fourth on a home run over the left field fence. The Foresters ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run single with two outs in the inning.
The Red Hawks (4-19, 1-7 MWC) finished with four hits, with two of those coming off the bat of
Korrine Peterson. Lake Forest's eight runs came on 10 base knocks.
In the second game of the day, Grinnell's bats proved to be even hotter than Lake Forest's, as the Pioneers (1-18, 1-2 MWC) scored four runs on five hits in the top of the first, including a solo homer to left field by Kayla Morrissey. Grinnell added three more runs in the second, with Sage Juveland connecting on the team's second home run of the game. The Pioneers added three more runs in the fifth to cap the scoring.
Ripon finished the game with two hits, coming from
Desiree Velazquez and
Meg Krautsch. Grinnell's 10 runs came on 13 hits.
The Red Hawks will try to rebound on Sunday when they'll play on the third and final day of the MWC Classic. Ripon faces Illinois College at 10 a.m., before squaring off against Monmouth at 2 p.m. Both games will again be played in Janesville, Wis.
