Red Hawks Lose Pair of Matches

Box Score vs. Lake Forest
Box Score vs. Carroll University

RIPON, Wis. -
Ripon's women's tennis team lost both of their matches Saturday by identical 8-1 scores, losing to both Lake Forest and Carroll University.

Against Lake Forest (4-0, 2-0 MWC), the Red Hawks (1-5, 0-2 MWC) earned their only team point at number five singles where Samantha Kiesner was victorious by a score of 7-6, 6-2. Ripon was outscored in doubles play by a combined score of 24-7.

"Lake Forest is a very powerful team that was picked to finish second in the Midwest Conference's preseason poll," Head Coach Jim Borell said. "Samantha was the bright spot for our team as she used an all court game to defeat her opponent with angles, passing shots, and excellent net."

In their second match of the day, Carroll (4-1, 1-0 MWC) defeated the Red Hawks, with Ripon's only win coming in singles play where Maddie VandenHouten won her number one flight by a score of 4-6, 7-5, 10-3. In doubles play, Ripon was outscored by a combined score of 24-4.

"We faced another very good team in the afternoon match," Borell said. "Maddie had another fabulous, but exhausting match where she came from behind to beat their number one player."

The Red Hawks will be back in action Sunday when they'll host Beloit College at 9 a.m., before traveling to St. Norbert for an afternoon match at 4 p.m.
