Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Red Hawks Pick Up First Conference Win of the Season

RIPON, Wis. - One day after losing their conference-opening game, the Ripon College women's soccer team rebounded with a 4-2 victory over Beloit College. The Red Hawks also outshot the Buccaneers 17-12 on the day.

"I'm really pleased with how we rebounded from yesterday's loss to Lake Forest," Ripon Head Coach Sam Schroeder said. "Anytime a team plays two games in a row, especially two conference games, it's difficult both physically and emotionally. I loved how we came out and built our scoring chances through quality possession."

Ripon started the scoring in the 17th minute when
Morgan Johnson took a pass from Paige Birschbach to score her third goal of the season. Nineteen minutes later, it was Birschbach who found the back of the net, recording her 10th goal of the year on an assist from Cassidy Blaney. Hannah Mahr also got into the action just before halftime, scoring her second goal of the season to give Ripon a 3-0 halftime lead.

After an own goal cut the lead to two, Beloit made things interesting when Lili Hagg cut Ripon's lead to one with a goal in the 80th minute. Six minutes later, the game was put away for good, as
Alyssa Kennedy's fourth goal of the season, and second in two days, gave Ripon some much needed breathing room, as she was assisted by Birschbach.

"Alyssa was pretty special today," Schroeder said. "She has been extremely ill and overcame that to lead our team and put an exclamation point on the win when she smashed that last goal to seal the victory."

Ripon Goal Keeper
Morgan Smith played all 90 minutes, making one save. Her counterpart, Haylee Irwin made five saves in her 90 minutes of work.

The Red Hawks will be back in action on Thursday when they'll host Lakeland College. That game will begin at 4 p.m. on Prairie Field in Ripon.
