RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon women's soccer team won their second consecutive game Thursday afternoon, defeating Lakeland College, 4-1, behind a pair of goals in both halves. The Red Hawks also outshot the Muskies 27-9, including a 14-2 advantage in the first half.
Ripon (5-3-1) scored the game's first goal in the 20th minute when
Morgan Johnson netted her fourth of the season on an assist from
Paige Birschbach. Lakeland added a goal later in the half on an own goal, but the Red Hawks would get that one back when Birschbach scored on a Penalty Kick just five minutes later.
Danielle Senger added to Ripon's lead in the second half, recording her second goal of the season in the 55th minute on another assist from Birschbach, who would cap the scoring in the 68th minute when she put the ball in the net for the second time on the day and 12th time this season on a header from a corner kick by Donna Lohse. With her two goals and two assists on the day, Birschbach, who is only a sophomore, has moved into seventh place in school history for career goals scored (26), tied for fifth for career assists (19), and seventh in career points (71).
Ripon Goal Keeper Jessica Bykowski played all 90 minutes, saving seven shots, while her counterpart, Jessica Carter, made 13 saves in her 90 minutes of action.
