Box Score 2 Platteville, Wis. - The Ripon volleyball team suffered its first two losses of the season on Friday, losing to UW-Platteville and Westminster (Mo.) during the first day of the UW-Platteville Tournament. The Red Hawks took UW-Platteville to the limit, losing in five sets (22-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23, 10-15), before losing to Westminster in three sets (22-25, 13-25, 19-25).
Against UW-Platteville (1-0), Ripon recorded a higher hitting percentage (.204) than the Pioneers (.164), while also recording more blocks (2-1) and double-digit kills in three of the five sets. The Red Hawks (1-2) were led by
Allison Barnes' 16 kills and hitting percentage of .310.
Katie Berrell added 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .303, while also recording 16 digs.
Abbi Williamson led the team with 47 assists, while
Kendra Holte posted a team-best 21 digs.
Maddie Koster also chipped in with 16 digs.
In their second match of the day, Westminster (1-0) topped Ripon in nearly every statistical category, including kills (36-24), service aces (11-2), assists (33-21), digs (38-32), and blocks (5-3). Ripon was led by Berrell's seven kills, while Barnes and
Emily Gary registered six and five kills, respectively. That moves Gary into sixth in school history for career kills, with 879. Williamson again led the team in assists, with 21, while Holte notched a team-best seven digs.
The Red Hawks will try to turn things around on Saturday when they'll play in the second and final day of the UW-Platteville Tournament. Ripon will battle Gustavus Adolphus at 10 a.m., before facing Cornell (Iowa) at Noon in Platteville, Wis.
