RIPON, Wis. - After winning their first two games to begin the season, Ripon's women's soccer suffered their first loss of the season Sunday afternoon, losing to Benedictine (Ill.) University, 3-0. Benedictine also held an edge in shots in the game, with an 18-5 advantage, including a 10-3 advantage in the first half.
It looked like Ripon (2-1) could be on their way to their third straight win early on, as
Paige Birschbach scored for the fourth time this season, with an assist from
Morgan Johnson, just two minutes into the game. Benedictine (2-1) then tied the score in the 27th minute on an unassisted goal by Zoie Holloway. She wasn't done however, scoring a second goal just seven minutes later to give the Eagles their first and only lead of the game. Benedictine would add an insurance goal in the second half from Daniela Nieto.
Morgan Smith played the entire game in goal for the Red Hawks, making 12 saves. Maddie Frye also played all 90 minutes for Benedictine, saving two shots.
Ripon will try to get back on the winning track Thursday at Maranatha Baptist. That game will begin at 5 p.m. in Watertown, Wis.,
