LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Ripon's women's basketball team built a two-point halftime lead Tuesday night, only to score 14 points in the second half, en route to a 53-41 loss at Lake Forest College. The Red Hawks converted just 20 percent (6-30) of their shots in the second half after making 44 percent (11-25) of their first half shots in a game that saw eight ties and 11 lead changes.
The two teams traded baskets for much of the first quarter, with Ripon holding a 16-15 lead at the end of the period. The game remained close in the second quarter, with Ripon taking their largest lead of six on a layup by
Maggie Oimoen with four and a half minutes left in the half.
After taking a two-point lead into halftime, Ripon went cold in the third quarter, making just three of their 15 shots, allowing Lake Forest to take a 36-34 lead entering the final quarter. The Red Hawks made one final push in the final 10 minutes, taking the lead on a
Megan Jensen jumper with seven minutes remaining. That would be Ripon's final points until the game's final minute, as Lake Forest ended the game on a 16-2 run to seal the victory.
Nicole Herkert led Ripon with 11 points and seven rebounds, while
Emma McDonald scored 10 points, which included a pair of 3-pointers. The Red Hawks turned the ball over 18 times, which Lake Forest turned into 16 points.
The Foresters were led by a 17-point, 10-rebound effort from K.C. Stralka, who converted 13-of-15 free throws. Taylor Farrell added 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting, to go along with seven rebounds.
Ripon will try to snap their current two-game losing streak on Saturday when they'll host Monmouth College. That game will begin at 3 p.m. at Storzer Center in Ripon.
