APPLETON, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team ended a three-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 54-39 victory at Lawrence University. That marks the Red Hawks' 18th consecutive victory over the Vikings.
After falling behind early in the first quarter, Ripon (10-6, 6-5 MWC) scored the final six points of the period to take a 10-5 lead entering the second quarter. In that second frame, Ripon led by as many as 11, but Lawrence (0-15, 0-10 MWC) battled back to cut the lead to four at halftime.
Lawrence cut the lead to two early in the third quarter, but a jumper by
Jonalee Elliott started the momentum in Ripon's favor once again. The Red Hawks led by nine at the end of the period and would lead by double digits for the majority of the fourth and final quarter.
Ripon shot 40 percent (16-40) from the field, including 47 percent (8-17) in the second half. They held Lawrence to just 26 percent (13-50) shooting, while also out-rebounding the Vikings 37-29. The Red Hawks were led by Elliott's 10 points and four rebounds, while
Megan Jensen,
Emma McDonald and
Nicole Herkert each scored eight points.
Lawrence was led by 13 points from Aubrey Scott. Andrea Wilkinson added 11 points and five rebounds, while Elizabeth Arco scored eight points off the bench.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Tuesday when they'll host conference-leading St. Norbert College (11-4, 10-0 MWC). That game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Storzer Center in Ripon.
