MANKATO, Minn. - The Ripon men's soccer team put an end to their five-game losing streak Sunday afternoon with a convincing 5-1 victory at Bethany Lutheran. Ripon also held a shot advantage of 17-12 in the game.
Although Ripon (4-8) coasted to victory, it was Bethany Lutheran (0-12) that scored first, as Kenny Johnson broke a scoreless tie in the 21st minute. Ripon tied things up eight minutes later on a
Paul Karls goal, assisted by
Max Mindiola and
Grant Grywalsky. Two minutes later, the Red Hawks took their first lead of the contest on an unassisted goal by
Emenike Umeh.
Ripon built on their lead in the second half when
Devin Hoaglin scored on an assist from
Cameron Greene in the 53rd minute. Greene then scored a goal of his own in the 80th minute on an assist from Karls, who also assisted on the game's final goal, which came off the foot of Grywalsky.
Jimmy Amedeo played the entire game at Goal Keeper for the Red Hawks, making three saves.
Ripon will be in action again on Saturday when they'll travel to Illinois College. That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Jacksonville, Ill.
