OSHKOSH, Wis. - Facing their toughest test to date, the Ripon women's basketball team lost to ninth-ranked UW-Oshkosh Friday night by a score of 75-45. The Red Hawks shot 39 percent (19-49) from the field, while UW-Oshkosh converted 38 percent (23-60) of their field goals. Turnovers played a key role in the contest, as UW-O turned 18 Ripon miscues into 21 points, while turning the ball over just six times in the game.
Ripon (5-4) never led in the game, but they kept it close early, as
Maggie Oimoen tied the score at eight with a jumper mid-way through the first quarter. UW-Oshkosh (7-0) answered with a 14-2 run to close that period, and would lead by as many as 15 in the first half. Ripon cut the lead to seven mid-way through the second quarter, but the Titans would take a 35-23 lead into halftime.
UW-Oshkosh led by double digits for the remainder of the game, taking a 20-point lead into the final quarter, and coasting from there.
Ripon was led by Oimoen's 18 points in just 21 minutes, as she converted 8-of-9 from the field.
Emma McDonald added seven points, while
Nicole Herkert led the team in both rebounding (7) and assists (4).
Jonalee Elliott finished with a game-high three blocked shots, giving her 71 for her career, which is just four shy of the second-highest total in school history.
UW-Oshkosh was led by Taylor Schmidt's 14 points, which included three 3-pointers. Eliza Cambell added 12 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Morgan Kokta scored 10 points, making both of her 3-point attempts and all four of her free throws. The Titans finished the game shooting 44 percent (11-25) from 3-point range and 86 percent (18-21) from the free throw line.
The Red Hawks will now have a couple weeks off from game action, before resuming their schedule on January 4 when they'll host Grinnell College at 5:30 p.m. in Storzer Center.
