Ripon Earns Last-Second Win At Pacific (Ore.)

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Ripon defeated Pacific (Ore.) 75-72 Friday afternoon in a game that featured eight ties and 13 lead changes. The final tie was broken with less than one second remaining when Ty Sabin capped off a 26-point second half with a game-winning 3-pointer, his fifth long-ball of the period and third in the final four minutes.

The first half was tightly contested with neither team leading by more than six during the first 16 minutes. Pacific (7-3) took an eight point lead with one and a half minutes left in the half, but Ripon (8-1) cut that lead to six at halftime on a layup by Isaac Masters.

Pacific continued to lead for the first few minutes of the second half until Liam Lesniak gave the Red Hawks a 42-41 lead with 15 minutes remaining. Neither team led by more than five the rest of the way. Pacific tied the score at 72 with 15 seconds on the clock, but Sabin saved his best for last, connecting on his sixth 3-pointer of the game with 0.4 seconds remaining to give the Red Hawks the victory.

Sabin finished with a game-high 33 points on 12-of-25 shooting. Brendan McCoy added 13 points, including three 3-pointers, while Masters scored 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Ripon finished the game shooting 50 percent (25-50) from the field, including 68 percent (17-25) in the second half. They also shot 43 percent (12-28) from 3-point range, including 53 percent (8-15) in the second half.

Pacific was led by Nate Olowo's double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. R.J. Collins and J.J. Spitler added 14 and 12 points off the bench, respectively, while Michael Joseph chipped in with 11 points.

Ripon will be in action again on January 4 when they'll resume conference play against Grinnell College. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m. with both teams in a three-way tie for first place, along with St. Norbert, with identical 4-0 conference records.
