Red Hawks Never Trail In Win At Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. - The Ripon women's basketball team led from start to finish Wednesday night, earning the season sweep over Beloit College with a 64-42 victory. The win gives Ripon their most wins in a single season (13) since the 2009-10 season, which is the last season they qualified for the Midwest Conference Tournament. The Red Hawks can clinch the fourth and final spot in this year's MWC Tournament with a win and a Lake Forest loss in Saturday's regular season finale.

Megan Jensen gave Ripon (13-9, 9-8 MWC) the lead with a layup a minute and a half into the contest and the Red Hawks would never look back, leading by as many as six in the opening quarter. Ripon ended the half on an 11-5 run, giving them a 10-point halftime lead.

Beloit (9-14, 7-11 MWC) was able to cut that lead to four mid-way through the third quarter, but Ripon ended that period on a 9-2 run to take a 42-31 lead into the fourth quarter. In that final period, Ripon outscored Beloit 22-11 to win in convincing fashion.

Ripon shot 39 percent (24-61) from the field, including 38 percent (3-8) from 3-point range. They were led by 12 points apiece from Jensen and Emma McDonald, who also posted five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. Maggie Oimoen added 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting off the bench. The Red Hawks dominated the post, outscoring Beloit 32-4 in the paint. Ripon also scored 31 points off 27 Beloit turnovers.

Beloit converted just 24 percent (11-45) of their shots, including 20 percent (6-20) in the second half. Lana Wieseman led the Buccaneers with 20 points, and 11 rebounds. Laura Panicali added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Buccaneers, which saw just five players score in the game.

Ripon will now return home for their regular season finale on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Knox College. That game will also double as Senior Day in which the Red Hawks will be honoring Miranda Gunderson.
