Ripon Swept By Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Ripon's softball team lost both games of a doubleheader Saturday at Marian University. The Red Hawks lost the first game by a score of 5-2, before dropping the second 9-1 in five innings.

In the day's first game, Marian (11-5) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third, scoring three times, including a two-run home run. The Sabres added another in the fourth thanks to a Ripon error, and scored once more in the sixth on an RBI double.

The Red Hawks (0-12) scored their only runs in the top of the seventh on RBI from Lexi Reetz and Tene Robinson, but it was too little, too late.

Ripon recorded six hits, with two of those coming off the bat of Robinson. Reetz (0-3) suffered the loss, despite striking out seven batters and allowing just five hits.

In the nightcap, Marian again struck first, scoring twice in the bottom of the first. The Sabres then added seven more runs in the second, including a grand slam, putting the game out of reach early. Ripon's only run came in the third when Casey O'Malley reached on an error, allowing Robinson to cross the plate.

Ripon produced five hits in the game, with two coming from Stephanie Cartwright. Rebeccah Jones (0-3) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on seven hits and striking out two.

The Red Hawks will now get ready for the start of the Midwest Conference season, beginning with a home doubleheader Saturday against St. Norbert College, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
