Ripon Gets Swept By #4 UW-Whitewater

RIPON, Wis. - One year after defeating UW-Whitewater in the first game of the NCAA Regional Playoffs, the Ripon College baseball team wasn't as fortunate, as they lost both games of a doubleheader against the fourth-ranked Warhawks Friday. The Red Hawks dropped the first game 10-1, before losing the nightcap 14-1 in seven innings.

In the day's first game, UW-Whitewater (11-0) didn't waste any time, scoring twice in the bottom of the first when the second batter of the inning homered to right center after a leadoff walk. The Warhawks would add two more runs in both the third and fourth inning, before Ripon (2-10) finally got on the board in the top of the sixth. The Red Hawks' lone run of the game came on a Nick Schmitt RBI single, which scored Isiah Ramos from second base. UW-W would get that run back in the bottom of teh sixth, and would add another in the seventh and two more in the eighth to cap the scoring.

Five different Ripon players recorded a hit in the game. David Knapp (0-3) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings, while striking out two.

Ripon would score their only run in the top of the third on an RBI single by Jake Reinke, which allowed Nick Taranto to score. Whitewater added two runs in the bottom of the third, before opening up the floodgates with a seven-spot in the fourth.
