RIPON, Wis. - For one inning Wednesday, Ripon was playing with the lead against non-conference foe UW-Oshkosh, but that all changed beginning in the second inning, en route to a 13-1 loss in seven innings.
The Red Hawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when
Nick Schmitt hit a sac fly, scoring
Randy Finger from third base. UW-Oshkosh then answered with six runs on five hits in the following inning. After that, the two teams were locked in a pitchers duel until the top of the fifth, which saw the Titans score seven more runs on five hits and one Ripon error. The biggest blow was the hit that capped the scoring, a grand slam by Taylor Grimm.
Ripon finished with two hits in the contest, coming off the bat of Finger and
Nick Taranto.
Nick Henning (0-1) suffered the loss, while striking out one batter in 1.1 innings of work.
UW-Oshkosh recorded 17 base knocks, led by four hits from Johnny Eagan and three from both Andy Brahier and Dylan Ott. Brahier and Grimm each finished with a game-high four RBI. Adam Rude (1-0) earned the victory, allowing one run in six innings, while striking out 10.
The Red Hawks will try to rebound this weekend when they'll get back to conference play at Lawrence University. That doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. in Appleton, Wis. and can be heard live atÂ
