LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Ripon's softball team lost both games of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon against Lake Forest College. The Red Hawks dropped the first game 11-3 in six innings, before losing the second 9-1 in five frames.
The first game saw the Red Hawks get on the board first, as
Melanie Kobelt hit her second home run in as many days to give Ripon a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. That lead didn't last long however, as Lake Forest answered with a three run homer in the bottom of that inning.
The Foresters added three more runs in the third, before
Kaylee Arendt scored another run for the Red Hawks on a Lake Forest error in the fifth. The Foresters answered again with two runs in the bottom of that inning and three more to end the game in the sixth.
Ripon finished the game with four hits.
Ashley Parkkonen (1-5) suffered the loss, striking out two batters in two innings of work.
The second game was all Lake Forest in the early going, as they scored twice in the first, five times in the second and twice more in the third, which included a pair of home runs. Ripon's lone run came in the top of the fifth when
Elizabeth Floodstrand drove in Kobelt with a groundout.Â
Ripon's only hit in the game was a double by Kobelt.
Rebeccah Jones (0-4) suffered the loss, striking out two in four innings.
The Red Hawks will be in action again Saturday against Illinois College. That doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. at Tracy Field in Ripon.
