RIPON, Wis. - Ripon scored a run in each game of their doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, but that wasn't enough to avoid a sweep at the hands of UW-Oshkosh. The Red Hawks lost the first game 10-1, before dropping game two by a score of 9-1.
UW-Oshkosh (18-4) scored the first run of the day in the second inning of game one, before adding two more in the third. That's where the score would stay until the sixth when the Titans tacked on four more on three hits and one error, with the big blow coming on a three-run home run by Elizabeth Fonk. UW-O capped their scoring in the seventh with three more runs. The Red Hawks (2-22) scored their only run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single up the middle from
Stephanie Cartwright.
Ripon finished the game with eight hits, led by
Kaylee Arendt's 2-for-3 performance.
Lexi Reetz (1-8) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs and striking out five in six innings of work.
UW-Oshkosh recorded 13 hits, led by Erika Berry, who had three base knocks to go along with two RBI. Sara Brunlieb (10-2) earned the win, pitching five innings of scoreless ball, while giving up just four hits and striking out one.
The second game began much like the first, with UW-Oshkosh jumping on the scoreboard early. The Titans scored three runs on two hits in the top of the first, but left the bases loaded. The Red Hawks cut that lead to two with a run in the third on an RBI single off the bat of Reetz, but UW-O would score twice more in the fourth, aided by a pair of Ripon errors. They would add four more runs on five hits in the sixth to put the game away.
Reetz led Ripon's seven-hit attack with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate.
Ashley Parkkonen (1-7) was saddled with the loss.
The Titans finished with 14 hits, half of which came from their first two batters in the lineup. Haley Bayreuther was 4-foer-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Berry was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Clare Robbe (4-1) earned the win, allowing one earned run on seven hits, while striking out five.
The Red Hawks will be in action again Thursday when they'll host Carthage College. That doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. at Tracy Field in Ripon and will have LiveStats available atÂ
