MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Ripon's baseball team stepped out of conference play Tuesday night, narrowly losing to Wisconsin Lutheran.
Wisconsin Lutheran (13-19) got on the board first with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning. Ripon (9-20) would take their first lead of the game with a three-run fifth, which was highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of
Nick Schmitt. That gives Schmitt 48 career doubles, which moves him into third in program history, just six shy of the school record.
The Warriors would take the lead back with two runs in the sixth inning, but Ripon tied things up again in the seventh, scoring one run on an error and another on a double by
Josh Oswald.
Wisconsin Lutheran again took the lead in the bottom of that frame, crossing the plate on a wild pitch. They would add three more runs on two hits and two errors in the eighth to take a 7-4 lead. Ripon scored a run in the ninth on an RBI single by Oswald, but the damage was already done.
Ripon's nine hits came from just four players. Schmitt and
Nick Kita each posted three base knocks, while Oswald had two hits and
Randy Finger notched the other.
Brian Wilson (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing one earned run on two hits and striking out three in 1.1 innings of relief.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll travel to Marian University. That game will begin at 6 p.m. in Fond du Lac, Wis. with LiveStats and video available at
