RIPON, Wis. - Ripon did their best to play the role of spoiler Wednesday afternoon against Lawrence University, who is in the thick of the Midwest Conference playoff race, but lost to the Vikings 5-3. The second game of the doubleheader was suspended due to darkness with the teams tied at one in the 12th inning.
In game one, Lawrence (17-11-1, 10-5 MWC) struck first with a run in the top of the first on a bases loaded walk. The Red Hawks (2-29, 2-13 MWC) would tie things up in the bottom of the inning when
Tene Robinson doubled, scoring
Lexi Reetz, who led off the inning with a triple.Â
Lawrence grabbed the lead back with two runs in the second. Ripon added a run in the third on a sac fly by
Kaylee Arendt, but Lawrence scored on an RBI triple in the following inning and would add another run in the fifth on a solo home run.
Ripon out-hit Lawrence 9-7, led by Robinson, Reetz and
Stephanie Cartwright, who each finished with two hits. Reetz (1-12) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out four in a seven-inning complete game.
Reetz also pitched all 11 innings of the suspended game, which will be continued at a later date.
The Red Hawks are scheduled to be in action again on Saturday when they'll host Monmouth College. That doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. at Tracy Field in Ripon.
