Two Late Goals Doom Red Hawks In Loss To Cornell

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon and Cornell played pretty evenly Sunday afternoon, with Cornell holding a 15-12 shot advantage, until the Rams pulled away with two goals in the final 16 minutes to defeat the Red Hawks 3-1. Cornell also held the edge in corner shots, 5-1.

The Rams (3-4-2, 1-3-0 MWC) struck first with a goal in the ninth minute, unassisted off the foot of Facundo Benavidez. Ripon (3-5-0, 0-2-0 MWC) would tie things up in the 24th minute when Paul Karls netted his sixth of the season on a Penalty Kick.

The score would remain 1-1 well into the second half until the 75th minute when Ethan Berube took a cross from Facundo Benavidez to break the tie. Cornell added an insurance goal in the game's final minute from Michael Pacquette to complete the scoring.

Ripon Goal Keeper Jimmy Amedeo played all 90 minutes, saving six shots, while Cornell's Jerome Richards also played the entire game, making five saves.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday when they'll face St. Norbert College at 1 p.m. at West De Pere High School in De Pere, Wis.
