Red Hawks Rebound With Win Over Cornell

RIPON, Wis. - One day after suffering their first conference loss of the season, the Ripon College men's basketball team picked themselves up and got back on the winning track, defeating Cornell 78-66. The Red Hawks shot 52 percent (28-54) in the game, including 47 percent (9-19) from 3-point range.

The game was tightly contested early on, with neither team leading by more than four during the first 11 minutes. With Cornell (5-8, 3-5 MWC) leading by two with 10 and a half minutes left in the first half, Ripon (11-2, 7-1 MWC) made their move, scoring 12 consecutive points to take a 10-point lead. That lead would be cut to two and would eventually stand at four as the teams headed to their respective locker room.

Cornell continued to keep the score close early in the second half, but Ripon went on an 11-2 run, keyed by a trio of 3-pointers (two by Isaac Masters and one by Brendan McCoy) to take a 55-44 lead with 16 minutes to play. The Red Hawks would lead by as many as 20 in the second half and Cornell could only pull within nine the rest of the day.

Ripon was led by Ty Sabin's 19 points and nine rebounds, while McCoy added 17 points and Masters scored 10, to go along with a team-high four assists. That trio of players also combined to make eight of the team's nine 3-pointers.

Cornell had four players score in double figures, led by Jon Anderson's 16 points. Grant Anderson scored 14, while Corey Davis chipped in with 11 points and game-highs of seven assists and three steals. Brad Hund added 10 points and five rebounds.

With the win, Ripon remains in second place in the MWC standings, one game behind St. Norbert College, which happens to be their next opponent. Those two teams will battle each other Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. That game will also serve as a Blackout game in which all fans in attendance are asked to wear black.
