Ripon Dominates The Paint In Blowout Win At Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Ripon College women's basketball team defeated Lake Forest 74-44 Saturday afternoon to remain in a second place tie in the Midwest Conference standings with a 5-1 record in the MWC. The Red Hawks dominated near the basket, outscoring the Foresters in the paint by a 30-12 margin, while also out-rebounding LFC by a 53-29 margin. Ripon shot 43 percent (29-67) from the field, while holding Lake Forest to 26 percent (14-55) shooting in the game.

Even though the final score was lopsided, the first quarter was tightly contested, with Lake Forest (3-8, 2-4 MWC) holding a 13-12 lead at the end of the period. Ripon (7-4, 5-1 MWC) scored the first basket in the second quarter, taking the lead on a Megan Jensen 3-pointer, which was the beginning of a 13-0 run that included a trio of 3-pointers. The Red Hawks outscored Lake Forest 24-7 in the second quarter, en route to a 36-20 halftime lead.

The second half was more of the same, with Ripon outscoring LFC in the third quarter, 23-11. Ripon's largest lead of 30 points came on a pair of Nicole Herkert free throws.

Maggie Oimoen led Ripon with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Jonalee Elliott tied a career-high with 12 points, to go along with seven rebounds, while Jensen and Emma McDonald each scored 10 points.

Lake Forest was led by 10 points apiece from Bridget Bilek and Hannah O'Day. Ripon forced the Foresters into 23 turnovers, which the Red Hawks turned into 21 points.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Friday when they'll host Monmouth College at 5:30 p.m. in Ripon. That game will also serve as Ripon's Alzheimer's Awareness Day, where all fans in attendance are asked to wear purple to help raise awareness for Alzheimer's.
