RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's men's basketball team defeated Edgewood 67-48 in their 2017-18 season opener on Saturday afternoon. The Red Hawks dominated the boards, out-rebounding Edgewood by a 41-21 margin. Ripon also shot 45 percent (23-51) from the field, while holding the Eagles to 38 percent (19-50) shooting.
Senior transfer Tyler Semenas connected on a 3-pointer on Ripon's opening possession, and the Red Hawks (1-0) never looked back, beginning the game on an 11-2 run and leading 19-6 with eight minutes left in the first half. The Red Hawks took their largest lead of the half with 20 seconds remaining on an Isaac Masters 3-pointer. Ripon continued to lead by double digits in the second half, leading by at least 15 points for the remainder of the game.Â
Masters led all scorers with a career-high 18 points, 16 of which came in the first half, to go along with a career-best seven rebounds. Cal Schultz chipped in with 13 points and six rebounds, while Kyle Rutkowski and Trent Jones each scored nine and pulled down seven and six rebounds, respectively.
Edgewood (0-2) was led by Ben Seefeld's 17 points off the bench on 6-of-7 shooting. McClain Steffens and Arik Anderson each added seven points.
