RIPON, Wis. - The cleanest place in Weiske Gymnasium Tuesday night was the backboards, as Ripon's women's basketball team made it their job to clean the glass all night long. The Red Hawks out-rebounded UW-Stout 63-37, en route to a 59-45 victory over the Blue Devils, giving Ripon a win against a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) team in two of the last three seasons. Ripon's 63 rebounds are the fifth-highest single game total in program history, while 27 of their 63 boards came on the offensive end of the floor.
The first few minutes of the game were tightly contested until Ripon (2-1) went on a 10-5 run at the end of the first quarter to take a 13-8 lead into the second period. That lead was cut to one five minutes before halftime, but Ripon answered with eight unanswered points to give them a 29-20 advantage at halftime.
Ripon took their first double-digit lead mid-way through the third quarter on a pair of Maggie Oimoen free throws. That was part of a quarter that saw Ripon outscore UW-Stout 17-6 to break the game wide open. The Red Hawks took a 46-28 lead into the final quarter, as they coasted to victory.
Although there were two ties in the game, each coming in the first quarter, Ripon never trailed. The Red Hawks also out-scored UW-Stout (1-2) on second chance points by a 24-7 margin. Oimoen led Ripon with team-highs of 11 points and 12 rebounds (11 offensive) for her seventh career double-double. Eleanore Mueller added eight points and 11 boards, while Jonalee Elliott posted five points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and three blocked shots. That gives Elliott 94 career blocks, which breaks a school record that had been held for 16 years.
UW-Stout was led by Kyncaide Diedrich's game-high 12 points. Bailey Diersen added nine points, while Amber Fabeck recorded four points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Next up for the Red Hawks will be another WIAC school, as they'll travel to UW-Platteville on Saturday. That game will begin at 3 p.m. in Platteville, Wis., with LiveStats available at:
