Ripon Falters In Second Half In Loss At UW-Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team took a three-point lead into halftime at UW-Stevens Point Friday night, but the Pointers outscored the Red Hawks by 15 points in the second half, en route to a 66-54 victory.

UW-Stevens Point (5-3) was held to 26 percent (5-19) shooting in the second half, while Ripon (5-4) converted 52 percent (11-21) of their field goals before halftime. After the Pointers scored the first four points of the contest, Ripon scored seven consecutive points, including 3-pointers by Emma McDonald and Natalie Geiger. That was part of an 11-2 run that saw the Red Hawks take a five-point lead with two minutes left in the first quarter. The Pointers battled back to tie the score at 11 after one quarter of play. The lead would change hands several times before a three-point play by Maggie Oimoen gave Ripon the lead just before halftime.

With the score tied at 39 with just over one minute left in the third quarter, UW-Stevens Point scored seven consecutive points to take a seven-point lead into the final period. The Pointers continued to lead in the fourth quarter, going up by as many as 18 points, as they shot 57 percent (13-23) in the second half.

McDonald and Oimoen led Ripon with 11 points apiece, while Geiger finished with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting. McDonald also finished with two blocks and three steals. The Red Hawks shot just 53 percent (8-15) from the free throw line, while UW-Stevens Point converted 82 percent (27-33) of their foul shots.

UW-SP saw four players score in double figures, led by Mickey Roland's 11 points. Brooke Geier, Kellan Schmidt, and Carly Cerrato each finished with 10 points.
