Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Ripon Gets Back On Track With Win Over Beloit

RIPON, Wis. - After losing its last three games by a combined four points, Ripon's men's basketball team got back on the winning track Wednesday night, defeating Beloit 73-60. The Red Hawks shot 48 percent (25-52) in the game, while holding Beloit to just 33 percent (20-61) shooting.

Ripon (3-3, 1-2 MWC) wasted no time, scoring the first seven points of the game, with five of those coming from Cal Schultz. Beloit (1-6, 0-4 MWC) battled back to take a 10-9 lead with under 14 minutes left in the opening half, but the Buccaneers would only hold that lead, their only one in the game, for 20 seconds. Schultz connected on a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession to give Ripon the lead for good with 13 and a half minutes left in the period. Ripon's lead would remain in single digits, and they would take a five-point lead into halftime thanks to an Isaac Masters 3-pointer just before the break.

In the second half, Ripon used an 8-2 run in the first two minutes to take their first double-digit lead of the night. The Red Hawks' lead was cut to five later in the half, but a layup by Seth Kostroski gave Ripon an 11-point lead with 12 minutes to play, as they would lead by double-digits for the remainder of the game.

Schultz finished the game with 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while also recording four rebounds and a team-high two blocked shots. Tyler Semenas added 10 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists, while Masters posted nine points, five rebounds, and a team-high two steals. Ripon shot 46 percent (5-11) from 3-point range, as four different players connected from long range.

Beloit was led by Tristan Shoup's 14 points, to go along with six rebounds, four assists, and three blocked shots. Carlton Henning added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Cody Risseeuw also scored 12 points.

Ripon will now try to build on that performance, as they'll travel to Knox College on Saturday. That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Galesburg, Ill., and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/knox/.
