Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Red Hawks Shoot Their Way Past Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. - Ripon defeated Lawrence 83-67 Tuesday night to earn their third victory in a row and 17th of the season, which is the program's highest win total in 12 years, while their 14 conference wins are the most the program has seen in 19 seasons. The Red Hawks shot 52 percent (27-52) against the Vikings, making a season-best 61 percent (11-18) of their 3-pointers, while also converting 86 percent (18-21) of their free throws.

The Red Hawks (17-5, 14-3 MWC) never trailed in the game, getting out to a 9-1 lead seven minutes into the contest. Lawrence (9-12, 10-7 MWC) missed their first nine shots, while also turning the ball over five times during that stretch. Ripon took a double-digit lead with nine minutes left in the first half on a 3-pointer by Ty Sabin and the Red Hawks would lead by as many as 20 in the period.

After scoring 12 points in the first half, Sabin took over in the second, scoring 22 points after halftime. Lawrence cut Ripon's lead to single digits with under 10 minutes remaining, but Sabin answered by scoring Ripon's next 13 points in a span of less than four minutes to open a 16-point lead with six minutes to play, which helped the Red Hawks coast to victory.

Sabin led all scorers with 34 points, including seven 3-pointers, which is tied for the fourth-highest single game total in program history. That gives Sabin 267 career 3-pointers, which is just 10 shy of the school record, held by Brad Alberts '92. With his scoring output against Lawrence, Sabin has scored 661 points this season, which is 36 shy of Ripon's single season scoring record, and is just the second player in MWC history to score more than 2,400 career points (2,422).

Kyle Rutkowski added 11 points and five rebounds for the Red Hawks, making all three of his shots, while Brendan McCoy scored 10 points, shooting 2-for-3 from 3-point range. Liam Lesniak added nine points and seven rebounds, while Isaac Masters chipped in with eight points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Lawrence was led by Ben Peterson's 21 points and five rebounds off the bench, while making five 3-pointers. Jeremy Stephani added 20 points, which included four 3-pointers, while Abhishek Venkatesh scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

The Red Hawks will have one final tune-up before the MWC Tournament as they'll travel to Knox College on Saturday. That game is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Galesburg, Ill. and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
