Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Red Hawks Fall To Lake Forest

RIPON, Wis. - Despite shooting 49 percent (29-59) from the field and 50 percent (12-24) from 3-point range, the Ripon men's basketball team lost to Lake Forest College Saturday afternoon by a score of 75-73. That marks Ripon's first back-to-back losses of the season and puts them in a second-place tie in the Midwest Conference standings along with Lake Forest.

After Isaac Masters gave Ripon the lead with a 3-pointer on the game's first possession, Ripon fell behind by double digits in large part to nine first half 3-pointers by the Foresters, including five by Eric Porter, who scored 19 points in the first half. The Red Hawks trailed by as many as 18 points, but scored the final six points of the half to cut Lake Forest's lead to 12 at intermission.

Ripon cut that lead to single digits on the opening possession of the second half which saw Elliot Hoerdemann connect on a 3-pointer. That was the beginning of a 17-4 run that put the Red Hawks in the lead with 12 and a half minutes remaining. Lake Forest grabbed the lead again on the ensuing possession, but Brendan McCoy tied things up with a jumper for Ripon the next time down the court. Lake Forest then went on a 9-0 run during the next minute and a half. Ripon would cut the lead to two on a Ty Sabin jumper with four minutes remaining, but that's as close as they'd get the rest of the game.

Sabin led the Red Hawks with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range, to go along with team-highs of eight rebounds and five assists. McCoy added 13 points, which included three 3-pointers, while Masters and Cal Schultz each scored 10 points with two 3-pointers apiece.

Lake Forest was led by Porter's 24 points, while Jordan Moran added 15 points and eight rebounds. Jim Schick also chipped in with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with three assists.

The Red Hawks will hope to get back in the win column on Wednesday when they'll host Lawrence University on what will also be Senior Night, honoring Liam Lesniak, Brendan McCoy, Ty Sabin, Mason Stangl, Jordan Stiede, and Team Manager Hannah MacKenzie. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Storzer Center in Ripon.
