KENOSHA, Wis. - Ripon's softball team lost a pair of five inning games at Carthage College on Friday afternoon, dropping the first 8-0, before losing the second by a 9-1 margin.
The first game saw Ripon get a taste of its own medicine. Nearly one month to the day that
Lexi Reetz tossed a no-hitter and perfect game for the Red Hawks, Ripon was on the other end of a no-hit bid, as Carthage's Katie Herron did the honors, while striking out three batters in the five innings. Offensively, Carthage broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning, before adding five more in the fourth and tacking on two in the fifth to end the game.
Ripon (7-17) began the day's second game on a better note, as
Isabella Osborn scored on an
Elizabeth Floodstrand double with two out in the top of the first. That lead would last until the third inning when Carthage (20-8) scored three runs, including a two-run home run. Carthage added another run in the fourth, before putting the game away with a five-spot in the fifth.
Ripon finished with four hits in the game, with Floodstrand,
Stephanie Cartwright,
Ashley Parkkonen, and
Maddie Koster each recording a base knock. Carthage finished the game with nine hits.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday when they'll travel to Beloit for a doubleheader that was originally scheduled to be played in Ripon, but was moved due to field conditions. That twinbill will begin at 1 p.m. in Beloit, Wis., with LiveStats available atÂ
