OSHKOSH, Wis. - Ripon's bats were silent for much of the first eight innings Wednesday afternoon, but came alive in the ninth, which saw the Red Hawks score three times. That would not be enough however, as UW-Oshkosh held on for a 5-3 victory.
UW-Oshkosh (18-13) grabbed an early lead with a four-run first inning, scoring on an RBI single and a three-run double to right center field. The Titans added another run in the third when they scored on a Ripon fielding error to take a 5-0 lead.
That's where the score would remain until the top of the ninth when Ripon (8-22) recorded nearly half of their hits in the game, scoring three runs on three hits.
Brice Swick drove in two of the three runs on a double down the left field line, while
Josh Oswald drove in the other with a single to left. The final out was recorded with the tying run at the plate.
Three of Ripon's eight hits came off the bat of Oswald, while
Riley Erickson added two base knocks.
Chris Huettner and
Ben Folger combined to pitch six innings of scoreless ball, allowing just four hits between them.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Thursday when they'll travel to Marian University for a 7 p.m. game under the lights in Fond du Lac, Wis. That game can be seen live atÂ
