WATERTOWN, Wis. - Ripon's men's soccer team looked great for the first 81 minutes Tuesday against Maranatha Baptist, leading 1-0 up to that point. It was the final nine minutes that was their downfall, as Maranatha scored two goals in a six and a half minute span to escape with a 2-1 victory.
Ripon's lone goal came just 10 minutes into the game when
Devin Hoaglin took a pass from
Eugene Pliska to notch his team-leading third goal of the season. That would be the score at halftime, and deep into the second half, until Maranatha Baptist's Daniel Kroll tied things up in the 81st minute on an assist from Nathan Akers. Six and a half minutes later, Tyler Nelson scored for the Sabrecats, giving them the victory.
Maranatha Baptist (4-2-0) out-shot Ripon (2-5-1) by a 20-8 margin, including 15-3 in the second half. Ripon Goal Keeper
Jimmy Amedeo saved nine shots in 90 minutes of action, while Andrew Taylor saved two shots for Maranatha.
The Red Hawks will try to bounce back on Saturday when they'll open Midwest Conference play at Monmouth. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Monmouth, Ill., and can be seen live at
