Box Score RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon College women's soccer team picked up their second win in a three-day span Sunday afternoon, as they needed overtime to defeat Saint Mary's (MN) 2-1. The game was even throughout, with each team recording 12 shots and Ripon holding a 9-7 edge on corner kicks.
After a scoreless first half, Saint Mary's (MN) got on the board first on Becca Dup's first goal of the season from the left side of the field to the lower right side of the net in the 64th minute. Twelve minutes later, Ripon knotted the score up at one when freshman
Maggie Bouque notched her first collegiate goal on an assist from
Paige Pierce.
After neither team scored for the remainder of regulation, it was Pierce who supplied the heroics in the extra frame. Just four minutes into the period, Pierce took a pass from
Meghan McCarthy and went one-on-one with SMU's Goal Keeper, who got her hands on the ball, but not enough to stop the shot. That gives Pierce five goals through the first two games of the season.
"This was just the type of game we needed coming off Friday's win over Lakeland. It was hard fought, with both teams creating chances, and it was a great advertisement for Division-III soccer," Ripon Head Coach
Greg Ruark said. "The ball certainly bounced our way, but you have to create chances to make chances, and I thought when we were able to get into their defensive third we became dangerous."
Miye Aoki-Kramer played the entire game in goal for the Red Hawks, making seven saves. Her counterpart, Zoe Boleneus saved three shots for Saint Mary's (MN).
Ripon will try to keep their momentum going on Wednesday when they'll travel to Marian University. That game will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Fond du Lac, Wis., and can be seen live, with LiveStats atÂ
