BELOIT, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team extended their conference-best winning streak to seven games Wednesday night with a 47-30 victory at Beloit College, holding the Buccaneers to just 26 percent (10-38) shooting, while allowing less than 10 points in three of the game's four quarters. Ripon's swarming defense also forced 28 turnovers, which the Red Hawks turned into 29 points, while recording 16 steals and eight blocked shots in the contest.
The lead changed hands three times in the opening quarter, with Ripon (12-5, 9-1 MWC) taking a 13-11 lead into the second period. The Red Hawks wouldn't trail the rest of the day, scoring the final seven points in the half to take a 29-19 halftime lead.
Ripon continued to stifle Beloit (3-14, 1-9 MWC) in the second half, limiting them to just two points on 1-of-9 shooting in the third quarter. That allowed the Red Hawks to take command of the game, as an
Eleanore Mueller layup gave them a 39-21 lead in the final minute of the quarter. Ripon's largest lead of the night came on a layup by
Laurissa Johnson in the game's final minutes, putting them up by 20.
The win keeps Ripon in sole possession of first place in the MWC, one game ahead of the second-place team.
Maggie Oimoen led all scorers with 11 points, while also pulling down nine rebounds (six offensive) for the Red Hawks.
Emma McDonald added eight points, while also extending her streak of consecutive games with a 3-pointer to 17.
Beloit was led by Shelby Kline's nine points. Melissa McLean added seven points, to go along with eight rebounds.
Ripon will try to keep things rolling on Saturday when they'll travel to Illinois College. That game will begin at 3 p.m. and can be seen live atÂ
