RIPON, WIs. - Ripon's women's soccer team fell behind early Saturday afternoon against Grinnell College, before mounting a second half comeback, but it wasn't enough as the Red Hawks fell by a score of 3-2. Grinnell also out-shot Ripon by a 19-9 margin.
Grinnell (6-4-1, 4-1-0 MWC) was the first team on the board, scoring on Valencia Alvarez's fourth goal of the season in the 18th minute on an assist from Simona Bambi. Less than one minute later, Jordan Maddaus found the back of the net on an assist from Hope Nowak. Maddaus scored again in the 26th minute to give Grinnell a 3-0 lead.
Ripon (5-7-1, 3-2-0 MWC) cut that lead to two early in the second half when
Brianna Schnell connected on a Penalty Kick for her seventh goal of the season. The Red Hawks inched closer in the 71st minute when
Camrie Schmitz scored her seventh goal of the year, thanks to an assist from
Maeve Kim, to cut Grinnell's lead to one, but that's as close as they would get.
Miye Aoki-Kramer played all 90 minutes at Goal Keeper for the Red Hawks, making 12 saves. Elizabeth Hunt also played the entire game for Grinnell, saving six shots.
The Red Hawks won't have much time to dwell on this loss, as they'll be in action again on Sunday when they'll host Cornell College. That match will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Prairie Field in Ripon, and can be seen live atÂ
