RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's women's soccer team won their third consecutive game Sunday afternoon, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran 5-2. In their current winning streak, the Red Hawks have scored at least five goals in every game, while outscoring opponents 17-2.
Ripon (5-5-1) fell behind early when Wisconsin Lutheran's Helen Joyce broke a scoreless tie with her 12th goal of the season in the eighth minute, but Ripon answered one minute later when
Paige Pierce's conference-leading 13th goal of the season tied the score at one on an assist from
Brianna Schnell.
Camrie Schmitz gave Ripon their first lead of the game in the 24th minute with her sixth goal of the year, before Pierce added a second goal as time expired in the first half. That gives Pierce 12 goals in Ripon's last seven games, as she has recorded six multi-goal games during that span. Her 85 career points moves her into a tie for fifth place in program history.
The Red Hawks continued to put on the pressure in the second half, scoring again on a
Brianna Schnell goal in the 65th minute, with the assist going to
Maggie Bouque.
Olivia Ambrose gave Ripon a 5-1 lead with her second goal of the season in the 73rd minute thanks to an assist from
Maeve Kim. Wisconsin Lutheran (6-6-0) got one more goal from Joyce in the 73rd minute, but it was not enough on this day.
Miye Aoki-Kramer and
Stefani Zeiger split the Goal Keeper duties for Ripon, combining for six saves. Wisconsin Lutheran saved 12 shots on the day, with Abby Vavra and Becca Nikolas saving six apiece.
Ripon will try to keep their momentum going Thursday when they'll travel to the University of Dubuque at 6 p.m.
