MENOMONIE, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team built a 10-point halftime lead Tuesday night by shooting 58 percent (15-26) in the first half, but would see that lead disappear after halftime in a 66-55 loss at UW-Stout. The Red Hawks were outscored 43-22 in the second half, which saw them shoot just 23 percent (6-26) from the floor.
Ripon (3-7) scored the first four points of the game, and held a lead for the entire first quarter. UW-Stout (9-0) tied the game on the first basket of the second period, but
Alyassa Burgess answered with a layup to put the Red Hawks back in front. Ripon never trailed in the first half, and took their largest lead of 10 just before halftime.
The Red Hawks continued to lead in the second half, but UW-Stout used a 10-1 run to take their first lead of the game with under one and a half minutes to play in the third quarter. The Blue Devils led by four at the end of the period, and scored the first 12 points of the fourth quarter to cap a 26-2 run, giving them a 16-point lead mid-way through the period.
Maggie Oimoen led Ripon with eight points and six rebounds, while Burgess and
Jesi Nay also each scored eight points.
Lauren Benkowski added seven points off the bench.
UW-Stout was led by Amber Fabeck's 22 points and six rebounds, while Bailey Diersen and Kyncaide Diedrich scored 18 and 10 points, respectively. The Blue Devils shot 44 percent (24-55) in the game, despite making 33 percent (9-27) of their first half shots.
