STEVENS POINT, Wis. - UW-Stevens Point scored 31 points off 19 Ripon turnovers Wednesday night, en route to a 71-49 victory over the Red Hawks, who forced the Pointers into just six turnovers. Ripon shot 42 percent (20-48) from the field in the game, while UW-Stevens Point, who is ranked seventh in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, converted 48 percent (29-61) of their shots, including 48 percent (10-21) from 3-point range.
Ripon (4-4) scored the first points of the game, and exploded out of the gates for a 13-4 lead just three and a half minutes into the contest. UW-Stevens Point (6-1) then used a 15-4 run to take their first lead of the game mid-way through the first half. The Red Hawks answered with a
Cal Schultz layup to tie the game, but the Pointers finished the half on a 19-5 run to take a 38-24 halftime lead.
UW-Stevens Point scored the first 11 points of the second half to take a 25-point advantage with just under 17 minutes remaining. They would lead by at least 20 for the rest of the night.
Trent Jones led Ripon with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Schultz and
Jaylen Mahone each scored eight. Schultz also recorded seven rebounds and three steals.
UW-Stevens Point was led by Nate Dodge's 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Drew Fredrickson added 11 points, including three 3-pointers, while recording a game-high five assists. Brett Tauber finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, while adding four assists.
