GALLATIN, Tenn. - Ripon came out firing on all cylinders Sunday afternoon, using an 18-point halftime lead to coast to a 79-63 victory over Bridgewater State on the second and final day of the Music City Classic.
The Red Hawks (6-5) scored the first six points of the game, en route to a 24-2 lead just eight and a half minutes into the contest. Bridgewater State (2-10) scored the next 11 points to cut Ripon's lead in half, but the Red Hawks would lead by double digits the rest of the way, taking a 21-point advantage late in the first half on one of
Drew Jorgensen's five 3-pointers.
Ripon continued to step on the gas pedal in the second half, leading by at least 16 points for the remainder of the game, including their largest lead of 26 with less than seven minutes remaining. The Red Hawks outscored Bridgewater State in the paint by a 46-32 margin, while also scoring 21 second chance points and out-rebounding Bridgewater 54-37. Eighteen of Ripon's 54 rebounds came on the offensive side of the court.
Kyle Rutkowski led Ripon with a career-high 19 points, in addition to nine rebounds (six offensive). Jorgensen added 17 points off the bench, while
Trent Jones recorded his second career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
Cal Schultz also recorded his second career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Bridgewater State was led by Rayshon Ward's 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Admar Jarmillo scored 19 points off the bench. Jose Monteiro, Jr. added 12 points, also in a reserve role.
Ripon will now head back to Wisconsin, where they'll be in action again on Wednesday at Lawrence University. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Appleton, Wis., and can be seen live atÂ
