LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Despite trailing by two points at halftime, Ripon lost at Lake Forest Saturday by a final score of 66-45, ending the Red Hawks' nine-game conference win streak. Ripon shot 32 percent (10-31) in the first half, before a lid was put on the rim in the second half, which saw the Red Hawks make just 14 percent (5-35) of their shots.
Ripon (13-7, 10-2 MWC) led 13-11 after the first quarter, and continued to lead mid-way through the second period, but Lake Forest scored five of the final six points before halftime to give the Foresters the lead at the break.
Lake Forest (10-11, 8-6 MWC) took their first double-digit lead on a free throw in the final seconds of the third quarter to put LFC up by 10 entering the final quarter. In that final period, Lake Forest used a 19-6 run to take a 23-point lead and put the game away.
Ripon was led by
Emma McDonald's 12 points, as she connected on a pair of 3-pointers to extend her streak of consecutive games with at least one 3-pointer made to 22 games. McDonald now has 53 3-pointers this season, which is tied for third in program history, just two shy of the single season record. She also has 151 career 3-pointers, which ranks second in program history, just three shy of the school record.
Lake Forest was led by Hannah O'Day's 24 points, as she made 6-of-10 3-pointers. Kelsey Burton added a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds.
The Red Hawks have already clinched a spot in this year's Midwest Conference Tournament, but with the loss, Ripon drops into a first-place tie with Cornell College atop the MWC standings.
