WHEELING, Ill. - Ripon lost both games of Thursday's doubleheader to Trinity International, dropping the first 3-1, before losing the second by a score of 4-2.
In the day's first game, Ripon (6-12) fell behind early as Trinity International (7-7) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI groundout. The Red Hawks tied things up in the fourth when a
Teara Morgenroth grounder allowed
Tene Robinson to score from third base. That tie lasted until the following inning when Trinity International plated the go-ahead run on an RBI single, before adding an insurance run on a sacrifice fly.
Ripon finished with three hits, coming off the bat of Morgenroth,
Micaela Encarnacion, and
Julia Sanchez.
Lexi Reetz (5-4) took the loss, despite allowing six hits and striking out seven in six innings of work.
In game two, it was the Red Hawks that jumped on the scoreboard early. They opened the scoring with a sac fly off the bat of Morgenroth, while Sanchez added a run when she scored on a two-out wild pitch. Trinity International cut that lead in half in the second, scoring on a sac fly of their own, before tying the score in the third on an RBI triple to right centerfield. Trinity International took their first lead of the contest in the fifth on an RBI single to third base, and scored an insurance run in the sixth on another RBI single.
The Red Hawks again collected three hits in the contest, coming from Encarnacion, Robinson, and Sanchez.
Jessica Kobelt started in the circle and pitched effectively yet again, allowing just one earned run and striking out three without issuing a walk, pitching four innings in the no-decision.
Ripon will now get ready for conference play, as they'll travel to Lake Forest College on Tuesday. That doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. in Lake Forest, Ill., and can be seen live atÂ
