ROCHESTER, Minn. - The second and final day of the 2018 ACM Dome Tournament saw Ripon's softball team split a pair of five-inning games. The Red Hawks defeated St. Scholastica 11-2, before losing to Luther 8-0 in the nightcap.
In the day's first game, Ripon (2-4) broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the second inning.
Micaela Encarnacion drove in the first run of the game with a one-out double, while
Tene Robinson added an RBI single in the inning. The Red Hawks added three more runs in the third, scoring two of them on a triple by
Brooke Bauer, who would score one batter later on a sacrifice fly by
Teara Morgenroth.
Ripon broke the game wide open in the fourth, scoring five runs on five hits, as the first four batters reached safely.
Isabella Osborn recorded an RBI single, while two other runs came across the plate on a double from Morgenroth. The other two runs came on a sac fly and a fielder's choice to give Ripon an 11-0 lead. St. Scholastica (0-1) scored their only runs in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough.
Ripon's 11 runs came on 10 hits, as Encarnacion led the way with three base knocks.
Lexi Reetz added two hits, while Bauer and Morgenroth each drove in three runs. Reetz (2-1) earned the victory, allowing just one earned run on six hits, while striking out five in five innings.
The day's second game didn't go as smoothly for the Red Hawks, although the did play Luther (5-1) to a scoreless tie for the first three innings. Luther took the game's first lead in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs on two hits and two errors. Luther added five more runs in the fifth.
Ripon's lone hit of the game came from
Molly Potter, who singled to left to lead off the fifth and avoid the no-hitter. Luther's eight runs came on nine hits, as they had three players with a multi-hit game.
The Red Hawks will now get ready for some fun, and sun, and softball, as they'll travel to Clermont, Fla. next weekend for the PFX Spring Games. Ripon's first games on that trip will be on March 11 against Bates and Lancaster Bible at 10 a.m. ET and 2:30 p.m. ET, respectively. Those games will be played at Legends Way Field, and can be seen via pay-per-view at
