RIPON, Wis. - Senior
Tene Robinson sent the Ripon College faithful home happy Wednesday, providing a walk-off single in game two of the Red Hawks doubleheader to salvage a split against Lawrence University. The Red Hawks lost the first game 6-2, before winning the second in exciting fashion, 3-2.
In the day's first game, Ripon (9-15, 3-3 MWC) broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when
Lexi Reetz scored on a single by
Julia Sanchez. That lead didn't last long, as Lawrence (7-13, 1-3 MWC) scored six runs on four hits in the top of the fifth, with all six runs being unearned. The Red Hawks added another run in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Robinson, but it was not enough to overcome Lawrence's big inning.
Ripon finished with eight hits, with two apiece coming from
Micaela Encarnacion and
Brooke Bauer. Reetz (7-6) allowed just three hits and struck out three in 4.1 innings of work, with all five of her runs allowed coming unearned.
Amanda Karnatz and Maria Reiter each finished with two hits for Lawrence, which totaled six hits in the contest. Madeline MacLean (4-6) earned the win, allowing two earned runs in her complete game.
In the nightcap, it was Lawrence who got on the board first, scoring once in the third on an RBI single by Reiter, and again in the fourth on an RBI single by Sofie Pedersen. Ripon got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when
Teara Morgenroth drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Ripon tied the score in the sixth when
Camryn Hamilton delivered a two-out single, which allowed
Isabella Osborn to score. That set the stage for Robinson's heroics in the bottom of the seventh, which was led off by a
Kayley Grabowski single to center. Two batters later, Robinson connected on her game-winning single with one out in the inning, scoring Grabowski from third.
Ripon finished the game with nine hits from eight different players. Grabowski led the way with a 2-for-3 performance.
Lilli Smith started in the circle and allowed one earned run on five hits in four innings of work. Reetz (8-6) earned the win in relief, allowing just one hit in three innings of scoreless ball, while striking out two batters and walking none.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Thursday when they'll host St. Norbert College. That doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. at Tracy Field in Ripon and can seen live atÂ
