RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's men's tennis team defeated Knox College by a score of 5-4 Sunday afternoon to earn their first conference victory of the season. The Red Hawks won three of the six singles matches, while also taking two of the three matches in doubles competition.
In singles play,
Junmo Kwon and
Emilio Tijerino won in convincing fashion at the number two and three flights, respectively, winning 6-2, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-1.
Daniel Garcia was also victorious, winning 7-5, 7-1 at the number five flight.
Adrian Granados and
Chris Mooney took their opponent to the limit at the number four and six flights, before each lost in three sets.
Tijerino also won at number one doubles, teaming with
Marcus Austin to stage a comeback win by a score of 9-8 (7-4). Garcia and
Eugene Pliska picked up the other win for the Red Hawks, winning their number three doubles match by a score of 8-3.
Ripon will try to carry that momentum into their next match on Saturday at Grinnell College, which will begin at 2 p.m. in Grinnell, Iowa.
