RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's women's soccer team erased a one goal halftime deficit in Friday's season-opener, only to fall to UW-Platteville in overtime by a score of 4-3. The Pioneers netted the game-winner just 56 seconds into the extra period.
UW-Platteville (1-0) got on the board first in the 10th minute on a goal by Taylor Martin, thanks to an assist from Amber Lueder. Ripon (0-1) tied things up in the 21st minute when
Cassidy Blaney scored her fourth career goal on an assist from
Camrie Schmitz. Platteville would grab the lead back later in the half, as Martin found Lueder, who put the ball in the net.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Martin assisted on another goal when Ashley Peck did the honors. Ripon then cut that lead in half when Schmitz took a pass from
Paige Pierce and found the lower left corner of the net for her first career goal in her first game as a Red Hawk. Schmitz would completely erase the deficit in the 72nd minute with her second goal of the day on an assist from
Maeve Kim.
Once the extra period began, it didn't last long. UW-Platteville ended the game less than one minute into overtime on an unassisted goal by Amber Lueder, her second of the game.
Ripon Goal Keeper
Miye Aoki-Kramer played the entire game, making 11 saves. Her counterpart Mariah Skogstad also played the entire contest, saving eight shots.
