PLYMOUTH, Wis. - After a 10-day layoff, the Ripon women's soccer team returned to the field in a big way Wednesday with a 4-1 victory at Lakeland College. The Red Hawks also out-shot the Muskies by a 21-7 margin, including 12-4 in the second half.
Ripon (1-2-0) got the scoring started in the eighth minute on
Paige Pierce's second goal of the season, thanks to an assist from
Becky Schwindt. After that, Sophomore
Brianna Schnell put on a show, scoring her first of three goals in the 20th minute for her first goal of the season on an assist from
Maeve Kim.
Schnell gave Ripon a three goal lead in the opening minutes of the second half thanks to an assist by
Kate Kabacinski. Schnell completed her first career hat trick 16 minutes later with her third goal of the game. She now has five goals in two career games against Lakeland, while also tallying eight career goals. Lakeland (3-2-1) added a goal in the 78th minute to avoid the shutout, but it was too little, too late for the Muskies.
All three Ripon Goal Keepers,
Miye Aoki-Kramer,
Mica Rivera, and
Stefani Zeiger, saw playing time, combining to save three shots. Lakeland's Erin Tomlinson played all 90 minutes at Goal Keeper, making eight saves.
The Red Hawks will try to build on this performance Saturday when they'll host UW-River Falls. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Prairie Field in Ripon and can be seen live atÂ
