RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's men's soccer team stood their ground for the entire first half of Saturday's game against Edgewood College, but the Eagles were just too much in the second half, scoring six goals after halftime to defeat the Red Hawks 8-1. Edgewood also held a shot advantage of 24-4, including 14-1 in the second half.
Ranking 26th in Division-III in goals scored this season, Edgewood (5-2-0) wasted no time getting on the board, as Sean Surtees did the honors on a Penalty Kick in the game's eighth minute. The Eagles doubled their lead in the 29th minute on another Penalty Kick, this time by Garrett Lee. Ripon (2-4-0) then cut the lead in half in the 40th minute on
Max Mindiola's first goal of the season on a Free Kick over the Goal Keeper.
The game remained a one-goal margin until the 55th minute when Edgewood scored its first of four goals in a 15-minute span, with two coming off the foot of Zander Hartberg, and one each from Lee and Scott Biancofiori. Mamadou Jawo rounded out the scoring with two goals in the final seven minutes of the contest.
Ripon Goal Keeper
Cole Jurish made eight saves in 77 minutes of work. Edgewood also formed a committee of Carson Hughes, Brandyn Storhoff, and Dan Dombrowski, which combined for two saves on the day.
The Red Hawks will try to rebound on Tuesday when they'll host Maranatha Baptist at 4 p.m. That game will be played at Prairie Field in Ripon and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
