Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Ripon's Offense Continues To Hum In Win At Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Ripon's men's basketball team won their sixth consecutive game Saturday afternoon with a decisive 108-64 victory at Illinois College in which Ripon scored more than 50 points in each half. The Red Hawks have now scored more than 100 points in two of their last three games, and are averaging 104.3 points per game during that span. Ripon shot 55 percent (36-66) in Saturday's game, including 48 percent (10-21) from 3-point range.

Ripon (10-5, 6-2 MWC) wasted no time taking control of the game, starting the day on an 11-2 run. Illinois College (4-12, 2-7 MWC) cut that lead to four mid-way through the first half, but the Red Hawks answered with a 33-12 run during the next seven minutes to take a 25-point lead with three minutes left before halftime. The Red Hawks would lead at intermission by a score of 57-33.

Ripon led by at least 22 points for the remainder of the game, with their largest lead of 45 coming in the final minute on one of Ben Young's four 3-pointers. As good as the Red Hawks offense was, their defense was just as impressive, forcing 17 turnovers, which they turned into 22 points, while holding the Blueboys to 36 percent (22-61) shooting, including just 14 percent (3-21) from 3-point range.

Freshman Tyson Tully led Ripon with a career-high 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while also pulling down five rebounds. Cal Schultz added 15 points and six rebounds, while Ryan Steffes registered 11 points and three boards. Young finished with a career-high 12 points in 13 minutes off the bench, making all four of his shots, while Beau Cary also recorded a career-high with 11 points in 12 minutes off the bench, making 5-of-6 shots from the field.

Illinois College was led by 10 points and three assists from Riley Mehrens. Mason Speer, Tim Parks, and Kane Wildermuth each finished with nine points for the Blueboys.

The Red Hawks will hope to extend their winning streak to seven games on Wednesday, when they'll travel to Beloit College. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Beloit, Wis., and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
