JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Ripon's women's basketball team won their conference-best fifth consecutive game Saturday afternoon with a dominating 79-43 victory at Illinois College. The Red Hawks have not allowed more than 49 points during their current win streak. They shot 46 percent (32-69) from the field on Saturday, including 47 percent (7-15) from 3-point range, while holding Illinois College to just 30 percent (17-57) shooting.
After the two teams traded baskets to start the game,
Caitie Carpenter connected on a 3-pointer with three minutes remaining in the opening quarter to give Ripon (8-7, 7-1 MWC) a lead that they would never relinquish. The Red Hawks led 13-6 after the first period, and extended their lead to double digits in the second quarter, which saw them lead by as many as 23 points, before taking a 37-17 lead into halftime.
Ripon led more at least 20 points for the entire second half, taking their largest lead of 36 in the final minutes on a jumper by
Skyylar Brescia. The Red Hawks dominated the paint all night long, outscoring Illinois College (6-10, 2-7 MWC) in the lane by a 42-20 margin, while also holding a 51-33 rebounding edge. Seventeen of Ripon's 51 rebounds came on the offensive end, leading to 20 second-chance points.
Alyassa Burgess led Ripon with her second career double-double, recording career-highs in both points (13) and rebounds (12), while also recording four assists, three blocked shots, and two steals. Carpenter added a career-high of 15 points in 17 minutes off the bench, shooting 5-for-8, including 3-for-4 from 3-point range.
Maggie Oimoen chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds in just 12 minutes of action, while
Megan Dille posted 10 points and seven rebounds (four offensive).
Illinois College was led by Grace Yaunches' 11 points off the bench. Brielle Greenleaf and Madi Peyton each added 10 points, while Greenleaf also pulled down six rebounds.
Ripon will now go for their sixth consecutive victory on Wednesday when they'll travel to Beloit College. That game will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Beloit, Wis., and can be seen live atÂ
