Ripon Coasts To Fifth Consecutive Victory

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Ripon's women's basketball team won their conference-best fifth consecutive game Saturday afternoon with a dominating 79-43 victory at Illinois College. The Red Hawks have not allowed more than 49 points during their current win streak. They shot 46 percent (32-69) from the field on Saturday, including 47 percent (7-15) from 3-point range, while holding Illinois College to just 30 percent (17-57) shooting.

After the two teams traded baskets to start the game, Caitie Carpenter connected on a 3-pointer with three minutes remaining in the opening quarter to give Ripon (8-7, 7-1 MWC) a lead that they would never relinquish. The Red Hawks led 13-6 after the first period, and extended their lead to double digits in the second quarter, which saw them lead by as many as 23 points, before taking a 37-17 lead into halftime.

Ripon led more at least 20 points for the entire second half, taking their largest lead of 36 in the final minutes on a jumper by Skyylar Brescia. The Red Hawks dominated the paint all night long, outscoring Illinois College (6-10, 2-7 MWC) in the lane by a 42-20 margin, while also holding a 51-33 rebounding edge. Seventeen of Ripon's 51 rebounds came on the offensive end, leading to 20 second-chance points.

Alyassa Burgess led Ripon with her second career double-double, recording career-highs in both points (13) and rebounds (12), while also recording four assists, three blocked shots, and two steals. Carpenter added a career-high of 15 points in 17 minutes off the bench, shooting 5-for-8, including 3-for-4 from 3-point range.
