APPLETON, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team defeated Lawrence 62-44 Wednesday night during a game in which they never trailed. The Red Hawks turned in a total team effort, with 12 of their 13 players scoring at least one point, and no one scoring more than nine. They finished the game shooting 35 percent (18-51) from the field, including 50 percent (6-12) from 3-point range.
Ripon (5-7, 4-1 MWC) scored the first 15 points of the game, including 3-pointers by
Laurissa Johnson and
Shannon Sorbo, before Lawrence (4-8, 1-5 MWC) got on the board with under three minutes remaining in the first quarter. After taking a 16-5 lead into the second period, Ripon continued to keep their foot on the gas, leading 30-11 at halftime.
The Red Hawks led by double digits for the entirety of the second half, leading by as many as 23 points on a late 3-pointer by
Annika Anderson. Lawrence was held to 29 percent (16-56) shooting, including just 15 percent (4-27) in the first half. The Vikings were also out-rebounded 49-29.
Ripon was led by nine points from both
Natalie Geiger and
Megan Dille, while also recording five and six rebounds, respectively. Johnson added eight points and five rebounds, while
Maggie Oimoen chipped in with seven points and nine boards.
Lawrence was led by Kenya Earl's 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Erin Hill added six points.
