GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell scored four second-half goals Saturday afternoon, helping the Pioneers to a 6-1 victory in a battle of Midwest Conference teams. The Pioneers also out-shot Ripon by a 28-5 margin, including 15-2 in the second half.
Grinnell (5-8-1, 1-4-1 MWC) started the scoring early with Ray Goedeker's fourth goal of the season just six minutes into the game. Max Sorenson doubled the Pioneers lead in the 40th minute with his second goal of the season.
The Pioneers continued to pile up the goals in the second half, scoring three goals in an eight-minute span, as Michael Spicer, Jasper Yang, and Davis Provost each found the back of the net. Ripon's lone goal came in the 74th minute on a Penalty Kick by
Devin Hoaglin, but Grinnell would get that goal back in the 78th minute on Mikoto Kobayashi's fourth of the season to cap the scoring.
Kenny Smith played the entire game at Goal Keeper for the Red Hawks (1-11-1, 0-4-0 MWC), making 10 saves. His counterpart, Jared Cloutier, saved one shot in his 90 minutes of work for the Pioneers.
